Conditions we support
Down Syndrome
Children with Down syndrome have incredible strengths. We help them build on every one.
What is Down Syndrome?
Down syndrome is a genetic condition caused by the presence of an extra copy of chromosome 21. It is one of the most common chromosomal conditions and occurs in approximately 1 in 700 births. Down syndrome affects development differently in every child — some children develop quickly and attend mainstream schools, while others need more intensive support.
Children with Down syndrome often have warm personalities, strong social awareness, and a genuine love of people. With early intervention, consistent therapy, and an inclusive environment, children with Down syndrome can develop strong communication skills, independence, and a meaningful quality of life.
What parents often notice
- Delayed motor milestones — sitting, standing, walking
- Low muscle tone (hypotonia) — floppy limbs, difficulty with posture
- Speech and language development that is slower than motor development
- Difficulty with fine motor tasks — feeding, drawing, dressing
- Short attention span and difficulty with task completion
- Hearing or vision difficulties (common in Down syndrome)
- Social strengths — warmth, empathy, and desire to connect
Important: If you recognise several of these signs in your child, it does not mean they definitely have Down Syndrome. Only a professional assessment can provide clarity. The earlier you seek an evaluation, the better.
How Siraa Health helps with Down Syndrome
Early intervention programme
The earlier therapy begins, the better the outcomes. We provide coordinated early intervention across speech, OT, and physiotherapy from infancy.
Physiotherapy for motor development
We address hypotonia and support the development of gross motor skills — rolling, sitting, walking, and physical coordination.
Speech & feeding therapy
We support communication development from early vocalisation to words and sentences, and address feeding difficulties common in infants with Down syndrome.
Occupational therapy
OT sessions build fine motor skills, daily living independence, and sensory processing — preparing children for school and life at home.
Inclusive education support
We work with families and schools to support successful inclusion in mainstream or special education settings.
