How do I know my breastfed baby is getting enough milk?
Reliable signs a breastfed baby is getting enough: 6 or more wet nappies daily after day 5, audible swallowing during feeds, the baby settling after some feeds, and steady weight gain — regaining birth weight by 2 weeks, then roughly 20–30 g/day in early months. Breast softness, pumping output and feed frequency are unreliable measures.

Understanding
What's Usually Behind Feeding Struggles
Latch and positioning — the cause of most pain and most 'supply' problems, and the most fixable
Perceived low supply — the majority of supply worries are normal newborn behaviour misread through exhaustion
Genuinely low transfer — occasionally from tongue-tie, prematurity or maternal factors, and identifiable on assessment
Cluster feeding and growth spurts mistaken for 'milk not enough'
Family pressure — well-meaning advice to top-up that quietly ends breastfeeding
Return-to-work transitions without a pumping and storage plan

What families say
“Our son was not saying a single word at 2.5. Within four months at Siraa he was putting two and three words together. The parent coaching made the biggest difference.”

“We were told to wait and see. We did not, and I am so glad. The therapist identified exactly what was holding him back. Six months later he is chatting non-stop.”

“What sets Siraa apart is that they treat you as a partner, not just a parent dropping off a child. Every session I left feeling more capable and less worried.”

Questions
What parents usually ask us
My baby feeds every hour in the evening. Is my supply low?+
Almost certainly not — evening cluster feeding is classic normal newborn behaviour, often coinciding with the fussy hours. If nappy counts and weight gain are on track, supply is fine. Cluster feeding actually builds supply; topping up instead can gradually reduce it.
Breastfeeding hurts. Do I just push through?+
No. Brief initial sensitivity can be normal; ongoing pain, cracked or bleeding nipples are not — they signal a latch or positioning problem (occasionally tongue-tie) that is fixable, usually within one session. Pain endured is breastfeeding shortened; get it assessed early.
When should we start solid foods?+
Around 6 completed months, when the baby sits with support, shows food interest and has lost the tongue-thrust reflex. Start with iron-rich foods (dal, egg yolk, fortified cereal, well-cooked mashed meat where eaten), progress textures steadily, and continue breast or formula milk alongside through the first year.
Is formula top-up a failure?+
No. Fed is the foundation; how is a family decision made with facts, not guilt. When supplementation is medically needed or personally chosen, doing it in a structured way preserves as much breastfeeding as you want to keep — and a thriving baby with a supported mother is the actual goal.
