When should a newborn first see a pediatrician after leaving the hospital?
A newborn should see a pediatrician within 48–72 hours of hospital discharge. This visit checks weight, jaundice, feeding, the umbilical cord and overall wellbeing — the period when most early problems appear and are easiest to fix. Follow-ups typically continue at 2 weeks, 6 weeks, and with each vaccination visit.

Questions
What parents usually ask us
Is my newborn's jaundice dangerous?+
Mild jaundice appears in most newborns around day 2–3 and clears within two weeks. It needs assessment — not alarm. Yellowness spreading down the body, a very sleepy baby, or jaundice in the first 24 hours needs a pediatrician promptly.
How do I know my baby is getting enough milk?+
Six or more wet nappies a day after day 5, audible swallowing during feeds, contentment between some feeds and steady weight gain from week two are the reliable signs. Breast size and pumped volumes are not.
How much should a newborn sleep?+
Newborns sleep 14–17 hours a day in short stretches of 2–4 hours, waking to feed around the clock. Day-night confusion is normal early on and settles over the first couple of months.
What is colic and when does it end?+
Colic is intense, predictable crying — often in the evenings — in an otherwise healthy, feeding, growing baby. It peaks around 6 weeks and resolves by 3–4 months. We examine first to rule out other causes, then help you survive it.
