My 18-month-old isn't talking yet. Should I wait until 2?+
No — 18 months with no words is exactly the right moment to assess, starting with a hearing check. Many late talkers catch up, but the ones who need help benefit enormously from starting now rather than at 2.5. Assessment doesn't commit you to anything except an answer.
What is the difference between speech delay and autism?+
Isolated speech delay affects words while social connection stays strong — the child points, shows things, shares smiles and understands well. Autism involves differences in social communication and interaction too — reduced response to name, limited shared attention and pretend play. A structured assessment distinguishes them; a worried Google search cannot.
What happens during the assessment?+
Mostly, it looks like play. We observe and engage your child with age-appropriate activities, use standardised screening tools, review the developmental history in detail, and check hearing and vision. You receive clear findings and a written plan the same visit.
My child was premature. How does that affect milestones?+
Premature babies are assessed by corrected age (from the due date, not the birth date) until about 2 years. A baby born 2 months early who sits at 8 months is on time, not late. We track corrected-age milestones so premature children are neither over- nor under-flagged.
