When is a child's recurring stomach pain something to worry about?
Recurring tummy pain needs medical assessment when it wakes the child from sleep, is located away from the belly button, comes with weight loss, vomiting, blood in stool, fever, or persistent diarrhea, or affects growth. Pain around the navel in a child who is otherwise growing and thriving is usually functional — real, but not dangerous — and responds to structured management.

Understanding
Common Causes of Tummy Trouble in Children
Functional abdominal pain — genuine pain from a sensitive gut-brain axis, the commonest cause in school-age children
Constipation masquerading as tummy ache — remarkably frequent and satisfying to fix
Reflux in infants — mostly 'happy spitters' who need reassurance, occasionally more
Lactose intolerance and cow's-milk protein issues
Celiac disease — underdiagnosed in India and worth ruling out in poor growth
Parasites and recurrent gut infections, especially with unsafe water
Our approach
How We Care for Your Child at Siraa Health
History that digs deeper
Pain diary, stool pattern, diet, stress and sleep — the story usually points to the diagnosis before any test does.
Targeted testing
Where indicated: stool tests, celiac screening, growth review — chosen to answer a specific question, not fired as a panel.
Treat the actual cause
Disimpaction for hidden constipation, feeding adjustments for reflux, dietary trials for intolerance — matched treatment, not a rotating cast of syrups.
Mind and gut together
For functional pain, we explain the gut-brain connection honestly, retrain routines, and reduce the anxiety loop — the evidence-based path that actually works.

“We were told to wait and see. We did not, and I am so glad. The therapist identified exactly what was holding him back. Six months later he is chatting non-stop.”

Questions
What parents usually ask us
My baby spits up after every feed. Is it reflux disease?+
Usually not. Most infants regurgitate — they are 'happy spitters' who feed well and gain weight, and it resolves as they sit and stand. Reflux becomes a disease when there's poor weight gain, feed refusal, blood in vomit or breathing symptoms — that combination deserves review.
Should I stop milk if my child has gas and bloating?+
Not on your own — milk is a major nutrition source, and removing it unnecessarily creates new problems. If lactose intolerance is genuinely suspected, we confirm with a structured trial and, if needed, plan calcium-adequate alternatives properly.
Could my child's poor growth be celiac disease?+
Possibly — celiac disease is more common in India than most parents realise and can present as poor growth, anemia or recurring tummy symptoms without dramatic diarrhea. A simple blood screen is the first step; never start a gluten-free diet before testing, as it masks the result.
Do children need regular deworming?+
In India, periodic deworming is recommended for children — typically every 6 months as per national guidelines. If symptoms suggest a specific parasite (itching around the anus, visible worms, persistent diarrhea), targeted testing and treatment work better than repeated blind dosing.
